Foundry's summer art exhibition celebrates American designer, photographer and fine artist Anita Dore.
Anita Dore is a landscape painter and graphic designer living in the city. Seeking greenery among the built environments the artist peers down driveways, into backyards and parking lots and up onto balconies and terraces. There she finds inspiration in the compositions created by the contrasting shapes, textures and colors of buildings, equipment, plants, trees, gardens and aging gates and mailboxes. The artist distills these intimate urban vignettes into abstract works using collage, painting and photography.
Some larger themes that the artist explores in this exhibition are how people interact with and create personal havens within a city, "past lives" of cities and how they change as they grow, and how the natural coexists with the urban.
Anita DORE
Raised in Upstate New York, my parents inspired in me a love of nature and observation, and they taught me to see the world with the eyes of an artist. Later, as a young adult, I chose to study design at Cornell University. Today, I identify equally with both disciplines: art and design–each informs the other to make me better at what I do. Even though they are separate paths–I take them both.
